Some relevant changes were announced in the 2017/18 Federal Budget on 9th May 2017, whether you are a visa applicant or a business sponsoring someone:
- Visa application fees to increase from 1 July 2017 – the increase is based on the forecast Consumer Price Index (CPI) and rounded to the nearest $5. Some examples of the new fees are – 457 visa application fee increase from $1060 to $1080; Student visa increases from $550 to $560; and subclass 187 increases from $3600 to $3670. - Training benchmarks A and B will cease from March 2018, replaced by a set training levee payment for the new Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa. For businesses with turnover less than $10m a year the levy is $1200 and for over $10m is $1800. Employers of subclass 186 and 187 visa holders will have to pay a one off $3000 fee.
